If
when asked what you would want to become when you grow up your answer was to
become a police officer, you now have a chance to make your wish come true. The
first step to take is to enroll yourself in one of the best Alabama police academies and get all the training that you
need to become a highly respected man/woman of the law. In order for you to
join any police academy of your choice, there are certain requirements and
qualifications that you must meet. They include the following: -
·
You must be 21 years of age. However,
18-year olds can be admitted to the training program.
·
You must be a United States citizen.
·
You must be a resident in the state of
Alabama. You will be required to posses a legal Alabama driver’s license at the
time of your appointment as a State Police Cadet.
·
You must posses a high school diploma or
a GED.
At
the time of your application, you will be required to take an oral/written
examination, polygraph examination and a psychological test. Those with
correspondence or mail-order high school diplomas are however not accepted.
Incase you are uncertain about the validity of your diploma, it would best if
you get in touch with Alabama Department of Education. Additionally, this state
does not allow no-sworn trainees. This means that applicants are required to
have a job prior to making an application to a police academy.
The
Alabama Sate Police automatically disqualifies all applicants who do not meet
the general requirements. In addition, you can be automatically disqualified
if: -
·
You provide false information, omit
crucial information or do a misrepresentation of any information at the time of
completing the formal application for employment, taking the polygraph
examination, when completing the polygraph screening booklet, or when filling
in any other documents/processes that are associated with the Cadet Selection
procedures.
·
You have a record of criminal behavior
or arrests that may reflect a bad picture on the Alabama State Police.
·
You will also be disqualified if found
to have abused illegal drugs/substances within a prescribed duration of time.
The
state of Alabama relies on a combined system of regional police academies and
department-run police academies that are approved by the Alabama Peace Officers
Standards and Training Commission. Superior police departments, i.e. the
Jefferson County Sheriff’s Department, Mobile Police Department and Huntsville
Police Department mange their own police academies. Other major departments
that operate their own police academies include the Alabama Department of
Corrections and the Alabama Department of Public Safety. There are various regional police academies
that offer basic training to the remainder of Alabama’s law enforcement
agencies. Some of the best Alabama
